Get the most from your dryer balls
After making my TV debut on BBC’s Countryfile (I know, get me) I’ve been inundated with interest over Little Beau Sheep’s very own laundry balls.
Queries, questions and quandaries around these woolly wonders have flooded in. So I thought now might be the ideal time to do a quick round-up of how they make life a bit better in all sorts of ways, both in and out of the laundry.
The original eco-friendly laundry balls
Originally designed as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic tumble dryer balls, my 100% pure wool variety are simply kinder on your clothes. Pop them in the tumble dryer with your usual laundry load and they’ll fluff up fabric and help dry your clothes all in one easy go.
Soft, strong and very long lasting
They are tough little sheep too. Lasting for 1000s of loads, Little Beau Sheep laundry balls reduce the need for fabric softener and do away with disposable dryer sheets. A whole lot quieter than their plastic counterparts, they are easier on your ears too.
Heaven scent sheep
Use them together with any of the laundry oils in Little Beau Sheep range and your laundry balls can scent and soften at the same time. How good is that? Also, because they are hand-made from pure wool, these brilliant balls are chemical and residue free, making them ready to tumble with re-useable nappies and diapers. Talk about soft as a baby’s bottom!

Six ways to ball outside the laundry…
Little Beau Sheep laundry balls are nothing if not versatile. Outside of their normal duties, this flexible flock can take on a whole range of other tasks. So here are my top six ways to get even more from your laundry balls.
- Keep seasonal clothes scented: like lots of other folk, I pack away winter woollies / summer clothes when they’re out of season to create extra wardrobe space. Thing is, when you unpack, they can be a bit stale or – dread of dreads – moth ravaged. So try this simple trick: dab a few laundry balls with some lavender oil, let them dry and pop them in with the clothes you’re packing away. Not only does it keep things fresh, it also deters those clothes munching moths.
- Make your drawers a delight: put a couple of these little guys in your drawers – along with a dab or two of your favourite natural oil – and they’ll help keep contents fresh. Just like you’re your very own sheepish security staff, they’ll also guard against gate-crashing moths. This works just as well in airing cupboards too by the way.
- Freshen up your car: if your car’s anything like mine, it can become a bit of a skip – especially with two little ones to ferry about the place. Yes, I’m ashamed to say it’s not the tidiest of motors at times. However, with a couple of scented laundry balls on the parcel shelf, nasty niffs are well and truly parked.
- Have a ball going long haul: this was a great tip that came in from one of my lovely customers, so I can’t take any credit I’m afraid! If you’re due to fly long haul, you can help to reduce the risk of DVT (deep vein thrombosis) by taking along a couple of laundry balls and using them to roll around under your feet. Firm enough to provide a massage but soft enough to squish away in your hand luggage, they make the perfect travelling companions.
- Stay stress free: we’ve all seen those plastic balls that let you squeeze away your tension. The downside being of course, the p word. Yup, plastic. The stuff that’s suffocating our planet. With a laundry ball in the palm of your hand, you can still work away your worries in a way that’s not going to stress the planet.
- The cat’s whiskers: from playful kittens to more mature moggies, cats love laundry balls! They adore the soft texture and because these sheep are made to last, hours of feline fun awaits.
